It took them a while but Aurélie and Jun had finally arrived in the Alola region.
The two step out of the boat and look around in wonder and amazement. It’s so beautiful and peaceful- nothing like any of the places they’ve ever been to before. The sea breeze is fresh and fragrant; the smell of salt lingers all around them.
The people are few but friendly and many give warm and welcoming smiles.
Seafolk Village on Poni island was their first choice out of all four islands for one reason and one reason only: there were rumors that a restaurant in the village served an enormous bowl of noodles- yet even calling it that would be an understatement as it is known as the Zumongous Z-Noodles.
And these two were ready to take on the challenge.
The way they came into their challenge was simple.
Jun has a mischievous grin plastered on his face as he walks up to Aurélie. “I heard something pretty interesting about another region.”
“What’s that?” She grins back at him with the same look of mischief.
“There’s a restaurant that offers an incredible dish and it’s huge. It’s huge and tastes good and those two things together can only mean one thing!” He declares, jabbing a finger in her face.
“Let’s have a bet!”
“Welcome, welcome! Table for two, yeah?” The host greets from behind the counter.
“You got it!” Jun grins. The Magmar behind the counter waves at Aurélie as she smiles at it.
“All right, Here’s a menu for you two. We’ve got a special deal going on now for our younger customers, by the way! Anyone under 20 eats for only ₱500!”
At those words, Jun’s jaw drops to the floor and his expression changes from hyperactive to borderline insane. He came here to eat and he will not leave until he gets his money’s worth (read: Aurélie’s money’s worth).
He scans the menu for a brief moment but he already knows what he wants.
“I want the Zumongous Z-Noodles!” The two of them say at the same time, in perfect harmony.
The host looks a little surprised. “The zumongous?! You guys sure about that?”
“Absolutely!”
“Definitely!”
“O-order in!” The host calls. “Nest of the tubby tapu! Soigné, if you please!”
“We’ve got life in the dining room!” A waiter calls. “VIP’s coming through!”
The stakes riding on this bet are nothing to sneeze at.
“So if I finish eating first, you have to pay for all my meals for three months!” Jun says proudly, sticking his chin up in the air.
“And what if I win?” Aurélie asks, her eyes burn a hole in his face. She does not play around when it comes to betting with Jun.
“Psh as if you’ll win!! I’ve been eating food with Kouki my entire life! Eating faster than you will be like a walk in the park!” His voice simply drips with arrogance.
“It’s okay, I know you just don’t have anything to bet with.” She smiles and he blushes several shades of pink.
“What if I just bet myself?!” He yells without thinking. But then he realizes---
Yet Aurélie appears to be seriously considering it. “Why not? If I win you travel with me for three months?”
The two come to an agreement and shake hands to make their bet official.
“Here you are! Fresh out of the kitchen! The dish is hot, so watch your hands!”
Jun immediately begins shoving noodles into his mouth crater, moving as fast as his mouth will allow. Within a few moments, he feels the consequences of his actions fall into his stomach yet rise again inside his throat.
“This is so much,” he barely manages to croak out the words.
Meanwhile, Aurélie is taking her time, knowing full well that Jun would try to eat as fast as he can within the first 30 seconds and then have to take a break. She takes advantage of the fact that he’s close to passing out to eat faster.
“You’re so silly,” she shakes her head and wipes her mouth. “Make sure that you don’t choke again.”
“Be quiet, Lies!”
“You haven’t said much since we left the restaurant,” Aurélie remarks softly.
Jun lets out a frustrated grunt. “I can’t believe you beat me.”
It took a while but Aurélie did manage to beat Jun because he was too busy trying to get as much as he could in his mouth that he ended up choking several times instead of actually eating.
Jun lets out another angry groan. “So where are we traveling for the next three months?”
“I don’t know. Is there anywhere you want to go?”
He takes a moment to consider this. “With you, I can go anywhere.”
At this, Aurélie can’t help but smile widely.
“You know Jun, I think that whether or not we had this bet- you and I would be traveling together anyway.”
Jun laughs a little. “Would you like to bet on that?”
